The Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) was established by the Australian Government in 2001 to enhance Australia’s economic, political and social relations with Latin America. Further information on the COALAR can be found at www.dfat/gov.au/coalar.
The COALAR Education Action Group (EAG) was formed in 2003 to assist the COALAR to progress education links with Latin American countries. The EAG brings together senior representatives from all education sectors and Latin American specialists in Australia to develop strategies with stakeholders to strengthen the bilateral education and training relationships with the Latin American region. The EAG also provides advice and recommendations to COALAR on initiatives and projects aimed at deepening Australia’s education linkages with the region, showing Australia as a competitive and high quality provider of education and training and as a source of relevant research and innovation for institutions in Latin America.
The Chair of the EAG is Professor Margaret Gardner AO and current membership includes representatives from UA, TDA, ACPET, MCEETYA, EA, DEEWR and DFAT.
The COALAR EAG meets 2-3 times a year, usually in Melbourne. Members are expected to meet any travel and accommodation expenses associated with EAG meetings and activities.
