Government Relations

Australian Education International (AEI) works to build co-operative relationships internationally and develop policy on the internationalisation of Australian education, science and training. This is achieved through research and analysis, providing policy advice and managing a range of activities to support international relationships. As part of this, AEI provides support for the Inter-Departmental Committee on internationalisation of education, science and training, and pursues implementation of its recommendations as these emerge for DEEWR.

The development of relationships and management of cross-portfolio linkages relating to the internationalisation of education, science and training, including the DEST International Forum (DIF), are also undertaken by AEI. The establishment of effective networks outside of DEEWR with the same focus are also important.

Free Trade Agreements
Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) are market-opening agreements that promote stronger trade and commercial ties between participating countries. This creates opportunities for Australian education exporters to expand operations into these markets.

Bilateral Relationships
AEI supports and guides Australia’s bilateral education relationships including monitoring policy developments and social and economic trends, and the monitoring and ongoing review of formal agreements such as Memoranda of Understanding and Mutual Recognition Arrangements.

International Organisations
AEI supports and guides Australia’s education, science and training participation in a range of multilateral fora as well as supporting Australia’s education, science and training trade interests in the World Trade Organisation.
