International Network - Hanoi

	Ms Bettina Cooke Counsellor (Education) Hanoi Post Jurisdiction: Vietnam, Cambodia (includes AEI manager Ho Chi Minh City) Ms Bettina Cooke was appointed as Counsellor (Education) Hanoi in April 2005. Ms Cooke was the Director of the North Asia, Trade Agreements and APEC Unit in the International Co-operation Branch in DEST before taking up her position as Counsellor in Hanoi.
Her responsibilities included managing Australia's education and training interests in respect of FTAs, WTO and Australia's participation in APEC. She was also responsible for management of Australia’s bilateral co-operation with China as well as Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Prior to her work in DEST, Ms Cooke worked in the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs as well as in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Ms Cooke holds degrees in Arts (History Honours and Museum Studies) and Economics from the Universities of Queensland and Sydney. Key activities in Vietnam will include: working closely with the Vietnamese Government at the national and provincial level, both to strengthen the bilateral relationship and to help the Australian education sector capitalise on opportunities arising from the economic development of Vietnam; ensuring that education agents are well informed when dealing with potential students; providing market intelligence to Australian education providers; and reinforcing the perception of Australia as a leading provider of quality education and training services. One practical means of raising Australia’s profile has been the provision of support to the newly formed Vietnamese Graduates from Australia Club.
